Rich in history and nostalgia, today's Plush Horse serves
homemade ice cream and other treats in the original store built in 1893.
Once a home to newlyweds, the lower level was converted into a general
store, selling goods to the citizens of Palos Park, IL. Wood floors and the magnificent embossed tin ceiling that still
exists today, were added in 1906. During the 1930's, the store became home
to Dunne's Meat Market, serving double-duty as the Palos Post Office.
In
1937, the building saw a change in ownership, leading the
way to the area's first ice
cream fountain - The Hobby Horse. When possession changed hands yet again
in 1961, the new proprietors changed the store's name to The Plush Horse. Since then, The
Plush Horse has seen a change in ownership several times. Current owners
Sheri Chiappetti and brother Steve Rydberg
proudly continue the tradition of making
delicious homemade ice cream in a picturesque setting
reminiscent of a bygone era. Today's patrons can enjoy a variety of ice
cream flavors along with a wonderful selection of specialty cones. We invite you to pull-up
a chair and eat inside, or stroll outside to our beautiful courtyard. Although the store's exterior hasn't changed
much over the years, inside you'll discover a small coffee shop featuring an
assortment of coffees and baked goods. The upper level now houses Nouveau
Silks, offering antiques and fine
gifts. Come visit our historic store in beautiful Palos
Park, IL and experience our legendary ice cream today! |
